More than 20 Oak-Leyden Lifelong Learning Center clients pitched in to grow nearly 1200 lbs. of produce for donation to the Oak Park River Forest Food Pantry – exceeding last year’s total of 850 lbs. From tomatoes and peppers to Brussels sprouts and squash, the All Ages+ All Abilities Garden at the Park District of Oak Park’s Cheney Mansion is harvested from May through October.
Allen, a participant from our Lifelong Learning Center and an Oak-Leyden group home resident noted, “Working in the garden makes you realize that you have so much. I like being able to give back.” Thanks to Sugar Beet Schoolhouse for inviting us to be a part of this wonderful community collaboration.
